Using the extended search mode one can search for firstname, lastname, date of birth, place of birth and residence. Special characters are as well searched in alternative spellings. If you choose phonetic search, the search string will be search with fuzzy search.

The characters "*" und "?" are used as wildcards. "*" stands for an arbitrary number of characters, "?" for one character. e.g. a search for M?ier reults Maier and a search for M*er finds Missier.

Date format is dd.mm.YYYY. If you just know the birth year of a person, enter birthdate 01.01.1900 to 31.12.1900.

You can choose between the searched databases.

If you just choose Gestapo and a category, you are able to browse through the search results.
